    FAQ

    Quick answers about Transfer.

    What is Transfer?

Transfer is a private peer-to-peer file sharing web app. Files move directly between two devices over an end-to-end encrypted connection — no cloud storage, no accounts, and no file size limits.

How do I send a file?

Create a room to get a 6-digit code and a QR code, then share it with your peer. When they join, add files and press Send — data flows straight between the two devices.

Do my files pass through a server?

No. Files are sent peer-to-peer over an encrypted WebRTC connection. Only if a direct connection can't be established does Transfer fall back to a relay through the server, which is still end-to-end encrypted and limited to 20MB per file.

Is there a file size limit?

Peer-to-peer transfers have no size limit. In relay fallback mode, single files are capped at 20MB.

    Is my transfer encrypted?

Yes. Transfers use end-to-end encryption, so only you and your peer can read the content — the server cannot.

    Do I need an account?

No. Transfer requires no sign-up and stores no personal data. A temporary room code is all you need.

How long does a room stay active?

A room expires after 5 minutes if no peer joins, and after a transfer ends it enters a 5-minute cooldown before being released.

    Does it work on mobile?

Yes. Transfer works in any modern mobile browser with WebRTC support. Without WebRTC, only relay mode is available (20MB max per file).
